Manager Research
Our key differentiating factor is an unwavering commitment to developing bespoke solutions that fit with our clients’ requirements.
The Manager Research Team
The Redington Manager Research Team works closely with the Consulting and ALM teams to deliver innovative and best-in-class solutions to our clients across the disciplines of Manager Research, Manager Selection and Performance Management, the latter of which embodies Redington’s evolution of the conventional fund monitoring service offered by other consultancies.
The bespoke nature of the work that we do for our clients and the lengths to which we go to offer them superior solutions are our defining factors: recent manager selection mandates include asset classes across global credit, alternative investments, emerging market equities and secured long lease property. However, that commitment to covering such a range of asset classes goes hand-in-hand with an ultimate commitment to the quality of our analysis. We do things a bit differently here at Redington, using tools most often found in the offices of banks and asset managers, rather than in those of consultants: Alternative Soft, Barclays Point, Bloomberg, CAMRADATA, Risk Metrics and UBS Delta. By carefully making use of the best aspects of all these tools, and by filling the gaps by building our own proprietary tools, clients receive best-in-class solutions that combine detailed quantitative analysis with the qualitative value that only years in the industry can bring.
Manager Research
In the area of Manager Research, Redington’s key differentiating factor is an unwavering commitment to developing bespoke solutions that fit with our clients’ requirements, both internal and external, for high grade market and manager information. In order for clients to receive advice that fits their particular situation, the team works towards a goal of constantly increasing its knowledge of product solutions available in the market.
During 2011 the Manager Research Team met with managers mandated to invest in emerging market corporate debt, insurance linked solutions, infrastructure and inflation-linked real assets. Every manager we meet becomes a resource that clients can access; drawing on their knowledge at any time. Indeed, we also pride ourselves on maintaining strong business relationships with individuals within the fund management and banking communities, so that network also becomes a resource for our clients to draw upon.Manager Selection
Traditional ‘buy lists’ do not feature in our manager selection process. Our primary focus in the fund manager selection process is to determine the specific skill set needed for each mandate and to select a manager based on this unique requirement; a manager suitable for one client may not be appropriate for another.
Clients receive bespoke solutions from Redington, and our commitment to this is reflected in the range of methods by which we select managers: for one client, a recommendation of a single manager may be the most appropriate way to satisfy the requirements, whereas for others we may arrange a beauty parade of finalist managers who have been filtered through our initial process. Sometimes it is the case that the client itself chooses the shortlist of managers, and we step in to help the client make the final decision. As a client of Redington, you are always included in the process of manager selection, you experience transparency of process, and receive an entirely bespoke solution.Performance Management
Our Performance Management service is an evolution and advancement of the traditional, simple fund monitoring service. We regularly embark on projects to develop and analyse customised benchmarks that empower the client to better assess the performance of their fund managers and fully understand the risks being taken by them. We demand transparency from managers and, in that vein, portfolios are analysed where possible right down to the individual position level, so each security can be evaluated.
This deep level of analysis is crucial if our clients are to receive meaningful and in-depth risk reporting, which forms the basis of informed investment decisions. Performance Management takes the form of three different solutions; Performance Based Analysis, Positional Analysis, and finally a thorough and forward looking Qualitative Analysis, which ensures that our quantitative analysis is at its most powerful.

Redington not only identified a workable solution to managing our subordinated financial bond holdings, but helped our investment committee get comfortable with a specialist manager outside of the usual names.
